While such reports often mention the key role in this fight played by women in the YPJ, there is otherwise little examination of the revolution happening behind the front lines in Rojava. That revolution is Revolution in Rojava “Revolution in Rojava” (Pluto, 2016) was written by Michel Knapp, a historian of radical democracy, co-founder of the Campaign Tatort Kurdistan, and member of NavDem Berlin; Anja Flach, an ethnologist and member of the Rojbin’s women’s council in Hamburg; and Ercan Ayboğa, an environmental engineer and activist, living in North Kurdistan. Had Rojava helped the anti-Kurdish Sunni opposition eliminate al-Assad in 2015, when he was weak, the revolution in Rojava would not have faced the double sword of al-Assad and the TAF later. Oct 23, 2019 The “Rojava Revolution” began, roughly, in 2012, when President Bashar al- Assad withdrew his forces from Northern Syria as the war 

The cooperative economy is part of the larger goal of the Rojava Revolution to democratize all of society, including but not limited to the economy. This also means that traditionally marginalized groups (such as women) getting a say in decisions becomes a priority, to ensure the democratic nature of the model.

In solidarity with the people of Rojava, we will show solidarity through the following goals and actions: We defend the Revolution and its achievements. We align ourselves with the revolution in Kurdistan, the defining struggle against the biggest manifestation of fascism of our time, and for the liberation of women and society. The revolution is not certain and Rojava needs the strong spirit of foreign revolutionaries giving their support here on the ground. It’s not enough to make some token gesture. If you are a revolutionary, then enough with your joke excuses, you have work to do. Soon after the revolution, Rojava’s educational system became more diverse, open, democratic, and participatory for students and teachers alike.
